[GAIA CONSORT]
GAIA CONSORT | JUNE 11th
[Don't Ask cover]
DANNY O'KEEFE | July 9th
[SAINT HELENS SRING QUARTET]
SAINT HELENS | August 13th

OUR FOURTH SUMMER of studio concerts, for family and friends to enjoy live music, the garden, plus food and drink, while supporting our visiting artists, was a success. Thanks to the generosity of our capacity audiences, we raised an average of $1000 at each show for our visiting artists. Plans are underway already for a fifth summer of studio concerts and the only way to learn about them is by signing up for eMail Updates to the right.

STARTING OFF WITH A BEAT IN JUNE was the very danceable Gaia Consort whose lead singers, Chris Bingham and Sue Tinney live some five blocks away in Snohomish. They played a benefit concert here several years ago for our successful city council candidate Lya Badgley who happened to meet them while out door-belling for her campaign. The group expands and contracts according to the venue and Chris brought along the string section for the June 11th concert -- violin, cello and of course, guitars -- and a dancing group of fans!

"I just wanted to say 'thank you' for hosting Gaia Consort yesterday. Your space is beautiful, your garden lovely and the food was amazing. It was a truly wonderful evening and we enjoyed every aspect. Thank you,  Christine Bickle and Family"

WE WERE SO PROUD TO PRESENT Danny O'Keefe with Joel Tepp on July 9th. This concert was suggested by Joel's friend and a Second Sunday audience member Linda, so thanks to her. I remember when Danny would perform on a regular basis at the old Silver Spoon in Duval back in the early eighties, when I first moved here from Boston, and the feelings of encouragement that moving west would turn out OK -- as it has. Then, it seems he stopped performing for a long while -- so it's with double pleasure that we got to see and hear him again in the vaulted nave of our studio, and share this remarkable musician with you!

ON AUGUST 13th WE WELCOMED THE Saint Helens String Quartet whom we heard for the first time along with many of you. This young group is in residence at Cornish School, and what attracted us to them is that their repertoire is influenced by the Kronos Quartet. A featured work for our concert was Ken Benshoof's " 8 Reflections on Swing Low," which was commissioned by the Quartet; and, the composer was introduced, when we learned that he had also written pieces for Kronos in the early days of their Seattle residency. Also included was "Morango ... Almost a Tango" by Thomas Oboe Lee; "Leyendas: An Andean Walkabout" by Gabriela Lena Frank; and, "American Dreams String Quartet #1" by Peter Schieckele.
